The client on this project wanted a fun, feminine, funky vibe to carry throughout her residence, starting with the major pain point: the kitchen. In considering the design of this small kitchen, we wanted to visually open up the space, while packing a lot of style into a compact area. The space “before” was sorely in need of updates, both visual and functional. Cabinet doors wouldn’t open properly, and the space felt very crowded. The results were fabulous, we made a small space feel larger, fixed the functional issues, and enhanced the style factor by 1000. We were able to turn what was once an uncomfortable space into an urban jewel box.
The color scheme was teal, red, and silver – the client’s favorite colors. Style-wise, we mixed a contemporary feel with a twist on traditional motifs. A silver stenciled ceiling brings pattern into the space while coral-red accents bring warmth and contrast nicely with the teal walls.
The countertops were a bright quartz surface, and the lower cabinets were darker to keep the focus on the lighter, higher elements of the space. Compact appliances saved space and allowed the kitchen to function more smoothly.
Red knobs contrast with the dark espresso lower cabinetry and bring a whimsical element to the space. Red light fixtures tie in the color scheme and draw your eye upwards to the silver stenciled ceiling.
We used glass-front upper cabinets to visually expand the space. The teal wall color extends throughout the room, including the backsplash area to make the kitchen a cheerful place to cook and entertain.
